Resources for coaches to help you uplevel your skills
Free, Private LinkedIn group
The Coaching Collective 2.0 is a place for all dedicated coaches to master the core coaching skills of listening, inquiry & presence.
The purpose of this group is to inspire and support coaches who are dedicated to their craft by elevating their skills and evolving their being.
This group is dedicated to being in service to those who live a life of service.
The Prime Directive of this group is: The Client is the Authority. Do Not Interfere with the Client's Autonomy.
Skeptical Curiosity is the belief that the problem presented is rarely the real issue. As coaches listen with deeper intention and focus, we can open up more person-centric conversations for our clients and help create awareness about who the are being and how they are creating their challenges.
We'll also explore the various versions of our selfs (sic) and how our clients are a reflection of our experiences & journey.
Preparing for the NEW!!! ICF ACC Credentialing Exam
updated October 2024
Earlier this month, the ICF announced that they will release a new exam specifically for acc-credential seekers on November 18, 2024.
If you’re seeking you ACC credential, you have the opportunity to take a different exam than the existing ICF Credentialing Exam (ICE) that has frustrated so many coaches.
Yeah - frustrated is the right word here. From ICF’s own tracking data, 25% of test takers do not pass their first attempt at the ICE, as you can see in the image below.
The NEW ACC Credentialing Exam will hopefully break that unfortunate trend by changing the focus of the test.
Instead of 78 scenario-based series of questions, with two answers each (Best and Worst options for the coach to pursue — yeah, don’t get me start on that one), it is 60 questions, definition-based, with one answer each. Just like a regular multiple-choice test.
Since it has fewer questions and answers, the new ACC exam will also have a shorter time requirement: 90 minutes total, including a 10-minute optional break in the middle.
Based on the 10 sample questions that the ICF has provided to help credential seekers get ready to take the test, this exam reminds me of the old CKA (Coach Knowledge Assessment) that was in place prior to ICE. While it wasn’t easy, it was a better (IMHO) option for showcasing a coach’s understanding of the Core Competencies and Code of Ethics than ICE will ever be.
ICE will stay in place for PCC and MCC credential seekers.
In the video below, I review each of the ten sample questions from the ICF ACC Exam page to help you prepare for this new test and think about how to apply the definition of coaching, along with the Core Competencies and Code of Ethics for your test-taking success.
I wish you great success on your credentialing journey and on your coaching career. Thank you for being a dedicated coach!
It’s time to take the power of coaching to new heights so that it is no longer the fodder for punchlines of sitcoms and stand-up comedians.

updated august 2024
For those coaches who are pursuing their credential with the International Coaching Federation, part of your journey includes taking the ICF Credentialing Exam.
On August 20, 2024, the ICF reduced the number of total questions on the credentialing exam from 81 to 78, to allow for a 10-minute break between exam sections.
The exam is a multiple-choice test where you are presented with coaching scenarios. In each case, you have to choose both the BEST and the WORST ways for the coach to proceed given the information in the scenario and based on the ICF Core Competencies and Code of Ethics.
After taking the exam in 2023, I created a booklet to help other coaches to be prepared with a tool to help them succeed (because the exam is tough, particularly choosing the WORST answer. Who ever thinks of doing the wrong thing? smh.)

In this updated edition, I have incorporated a new learning shared with me by a coach who took, and passed, the exam in July 2024.
Preparing for the ICF credentialing exam
A discussion with two credentialed coaches
who actually took the test!
Join coach Dat Nguyen, PCC and I as we break down our experience taking the ICF Credentialing Exam and give you tools to help choose the correct answers for a passing grade.
This was a fun discussion around this challenging exam. It’s our hope to both inspire confidence in those about to take the test, and provide practical insight for application to selecting answers.
It’s natural to feel overwhelmed with test anxiety, particularly when you know you have to choose TWO answers per question - the BEST and the WORST way for the coach to proceed in the given scenario.
For me, the most difficult answers were choosing the WORST answer…I recently had an huge epiphany about why I got many of those answer wrong on both the actual exam and on a sample test from Solutions Academy. <—- you can visit their exam simulator at the link embedded in their name.
(BTW - THANK YOU Solutions Academy for actually disclosing the reasoning for the selected answers in your sample exam!!!!)
