There Are Only Three Types of People Who Do Not Need a Life Coach… And You Probably Aren’t One of Them

So, you’re wondering what it takes to be successful.

Don’t deny it – you would not have clicked on this article if you weren’t curious about those who you think you are not like. You know – those successful people who have it all figured out…

Maybe wondering how you can model your life after those who have already succeeded. Great idea – that’s the basis of Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) modeling: If someone else has achieved a goal similar to yours, you can achieve it too by understanding and following their steps.

You may be shocked to discover the types of people who do not need coaching.

1. Those who have no goals in life.

Anyone who’s getting by day-to-day and feeling good about it, probably doesn’t need coaching to improve their already comfortable life.

They haven’t realized (yet) that comfort is a trap.

Just like the metaphorical frog in a pot of cool water, life will be turning up the heat slowly. As these people acclimate to each new level of stress and allow it to become their new normal, they become more and more disempowered to make a change.

2. Those who are stuck in the past

Living your life now based on what happened to you before? Can’t get over what your parents said to you or the boy/girlfriend who left you for someone else?

Good news – you don’t need a coach.

Bad news – you need a therapist. Good news - they are out there. Make the call.

Coaching, as defined by the International Coach Federation (ICF) is about working with a client in the present so that they can achieve their goals for the future.

Coaching does not dig in the past. EVER.

Healing past memories and traumas is the work of therapists. It requires skill and licensing.

3. Dead people

This grouping is not meant to be a joke, but instead a harsh call to reality.

When we give up on our goals and listen to limiting thoughts that tell us we can’t succeed, we die a little.

When we give up on our dreams enough, and we disconnect from them, we become much like the walking dead… shuffling from one day to the next without any clear reason for our actions.

Sometimes these zombies can come back to life.

This malaise can be a wakeup call. In the words of Andy Dufresne in The Shawshank Redemption, we have two choices: “I guess it comes down to a simple choice, really. Get busy living or get busy dying.”

After reading this list, you may be wondering about other possible types who you think may not need coaching, like those who have it all.

Answer: No one ever has it all. Even windfall lottery winners may need coaches to help them redefine their relationship with money so that they do not become bankrupt. (Yes, that is a thing.)

Or maybe you’re wondering about star athletes at the top of their game?

Michael Jordan had Phil Jackson. So did Kobe Bryant.

Steph Curry has Steve Kerr.

Why do these elite players have coaches?

Because coaches can see what the player can’t. They have a perspective outside of the player’s awareness and can help the player to see new ways of moving and thinking about their game.

Who do you want to be like in your life, those without motivation or those who are driven to succeed even further?

If you are feeling stuck or lost in life, it may be time for you to hire a coach and start closing the gap between where you are now and where you want to be.

Let’s talk about your dreams and define that thing that you want to accomplish in life so you can begin taking intentional, focused action to achieving it.
