A Pessimist's Guide to Manifesting 10: The Law of Cause and Effect

How Does Newton’s Third Law of Motion Apply to Manifesting?

We live in a three-dimensional physical universe. That’s where our bodies occupy space.

As a reader to this series of articles, you are probably spiritually-minded and open to the concept of an infinite universe and multiple dimensions. We’ve discussed this concept early on as pure potentiality.

For this article, I’m not going to concentrate much on the limitations of the physical universe as much as I am the laws which currently seem to apply to it. (For the science-minded, please don’t cringe at that statement. Scientific discoveries are always advancing. What’s accepted now may be altered or discredited in the future as our understanding evolves.)

Newton’s Third Law of Motion states, “For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.”

Ok, you’re probably thinking, “So what? Blah, blah, blah… I didn’t pay attention in science class, and even if I did, this just doesn’t matter to me living my life every day.”

Well, Bucky, actually it does.

The effort that you put into your life, into your intentional manifesting work, does come back to you as a reaction from the Universe.

If you’re letting life happen to you, there’s a good chance you are not seeing your goals come to fruition and you probably feel a bit like a victim of life.

Honestly, even if you are taking action, there’s no guarantee that you’re going to see exactly the outcome that you desire. (Mainly because you may be focusing on details rather than a bigger picture. We’ll get to that in a future article.)

But you will see an outcome from your efforts.

As you focus your attention, and act with intention, the return effect on your actions will increasingly be in alignment with your goals.

We can see this same concept in a variety of spiritual teachings.

Wiccans hold this idea as the Three-Fold Law. Essentially, whatever energy you put out will return to you multiple times over.

In the Bible, there is the Golden Rule: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Not quite as clear in its language, the Golden Rule is still presenting the concept that the energy you put out in the way you treat your fellow man will be reflected back to you.

This concept also appears in Galatians 6:7 as “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.

In other words, what you put out, you get back… and the Universe (or God, if you prefer) is watching.

How does this apply to our attempts to manifest our goals?

On one level, it applies to our work… that we actually take action to manifest our outcomes. Without action, there is no response.

Go ahead, sit on a park bench and dream about your goal. Until you get up and start doing something about it, you’re probably not going to manifest much more than a gathering of pigeons.

It also means that we must be focused, that our actions must be intentional and in alignment with our goal.

For example, if my objective is to run a marathon, the action of binge-watching Netflix every weekend while eating pizza is probably not going to help me become an effective runner of 26.2-miles. But I will see a bodily reaction to my pizza, beer and TV bingeing – I’ll probably store the energy as layers of fat.

Lesson: There is no wasted energy. All output will flow back to you as a reflection of that energy.

Eat poorly on a regular basis = have health issues. Become active and train with purpose = run a marathon (if that’s your intended outcome).

If your goal is to have a successful business, how are you applying your energy to that outcome? Are you focusing your efforts to outreach and awareness, or are you surfing Facebook in your spare time?

If your goal is to own a home, are you saving money, visualizing your ideal house and researching places to live, or are you running to the mall (or Amazon) as soon as you hear the word “Sale”?

If you wish to receive a life of success and abundance, begin behaving in alignment with that wish as you take action. Be of service to others, give what you can where you can and do so with an attitude of gratitude. Keep in mind, it’s not only the action, but the energy behind our actions that resonates with the Universe. Remember the Law of Attraction?

Do you need a little motivation to get you going? Read this fantastic series of 25 Wiccan quotes collected to inspire you in your efforts to achieve your goals. I love numbers 5, 8 and 13... funny that they are not only a mathematical equation (5 + 8 = 13) but also a progression of ideas: Get over your fear, embrace positive energies/use them wisely, and you will create change through harmonious action.

How are you applying your energy to manifesting your outcome?

Homework:

Revisit your desired outcome. Check to make sure it is still what you wish to realize.

Now, write down three intentional actions that you will commit to take on the next 7 – 10 days. Place dates for completion next to each and hold yourself accountable… because the Universe certainly will.

Until next week, make it so!
